¡Eso, sí! ¿Qué es?

If you were a teenager in the 90s, chances are that for you, as for me, “Chelsea” wasn’t a pier but an awkward frizzy haired blonde girl, MTV wasn’t a platform for the newest C grade celebrities but a forum to ask the US President about his underwear (or maybe it was pretty successfully both), and “Socks” weren’t just what you used to keep your feet warm, but also invoked the namesake of our national kitty. It is thus with a heavy heart, that I share with you, the following:

Socks, the White House cat during the Clinton administration who waged war on Buddy the pup, has died. He was around 18.

As the only living thing in the White House that didn’t get on my nerves, I have to say, I’m sad to see him go….

Socks had lived with Bill Clinton’s secretary, Betty Currie, in Hollywood, Md., since the Clintons left the White House in early 2001.

Currie confirmed Socks’ death Friday evening and said she was “heartbroken.” She did not give details, referring calls to the Clinton Foundation office.

The foundation released a statement from the Clintons:

Socks brought much happiness to Chelsea and us over the years, and enjoyment to kids and cat lovers everywhere. We’re grateful for those memories, and we especially want to thank our good friend, Betty Currie, for taking such loving care of Socks for so many years.”

Socks had reached his late teens _ an advanced age for a cat _ when reports surfaced in late 2008 that he had cancer and Currie had ruled out invasive efforts to prolong his life.

“It’s not a happy prognosis,” presidential historian Barry Landau, a friend of Currie’s, said at the time.

Socks was what feline-lovers call a tuxedo cat _ mostly black with white down the front and belly and on his feet, suggesting a fashionable dandy in a black satin evening jacket with a snowy shirt peeping out. He had markings that looked a bit like a mustache and goatee.

We’ll miss ya, little guy. But I’m sure you would want us to remember the happy times that you, and your feline brethren brought to humankind. And thusly, in loving memory of Socks, I present to you, Kittens, Inspired by Kittens!:

As for me, I was back by the washington phallicstack/ obilisk among the millions. inauguration-liveblog-washi1 I’m sharing some of the photos with you below, cuz I didn’t bring my own technology. And I’m sorry I haven’t been able to post much here because the past few days have been hectic!

And finally, Morgan, among others has asked for my take on the Barack/Peter Parker team-up for the new Spiderman issue. Honestly, its a great idea in my book (Marvel is not new to real world politics and politicians), but I’ll have to wait till I can get my hands on a copy and report thereafter.

till then,
